Prof. Li Zhi
Prof. Li Zhi is the head of the laboratory of biocatalysis and green chemistry at the Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS). He received B.S. degree in chemistry from Nanjing University in 1982 and Ph.D. degree in organic chemistry from the University of Vienna in 1991. After postdoctoral research in organic synthesis at the University of Oslo and ETH Zurich, he joined the Institute of Biotechnology at ETH Zurich working on biocatalysis and biotransformation, where he became a group leader in 1999. In 2006, he moved to NUS as an associate professor. He was a fellow of the Singapore-MIT Alliance (2006–2015) and currently severs as deputy president of Singapore Catalysis Society. He received Singapore Award for Sustainable Technology from IChemE (2013). His current research focuses on biocatalysis for chemical synthesis, bio-based chemical and fuel production, and polymeric biomaterials. His expertise in biotransformation includes enzyme discovery and evolution, cascade biotransformations, enzyme immobilization, biotransformations in vivo and in vitro, and bioprocess development.
